The MFP is an initiative staffed by ANA with funding from SAMHSA, making fellowships available to ethnic and racial psychiatric nursing students who are enrolled full time in an accredited master’s/doctoral nursing program.

Nearly 90% of Patients with Opioid Use Disorder Lack Medication Access (opens new window)
The United States overdose epidemic continues to worsen, but most patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) lack potentially life-saving medication access, according to new findings published in the International Journal of Drug Policy. Since the beginning of the opioid epidemic in the late 1990s, the number of drug overdose deaths has quadrupled, according to CDC data. Opioids continue to be the leading cause of overdose, involved in three-quarters of past-year deaths. Read more (opens new window)
Impact of rubric weight on holistic admissions for underrepresented students in nursing (opens new window)
Recommendations to address US health inequities include increasing nursing workforce diversity. Holistic admissions review (HAR) is a strategy to increase underrepresented student admission. This study's purpose was to evaluate HAR's effect on the cohort's racial composition and the effect of adjusting criteria weight on overall rubric scores. Read more (opens new window)
Racist experiences linked to reduced memory scores, studies find (opens new window)
The separate studies evaluated 1,000 middle-aged adults and 468 adults who were 90 and older. One recent study shows that Alzheimer’s disease disproportionately affects Black and Latino people while another suggests that there is a link between experiencing structural and interpersonal racism and disparities in cognitive aging among ethnic and racial groups. The American Academy of Pediatrics recently declared a national emergency in child and adolescent mental health, as rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal thoughts skyrocketed during the pandemic.
