Tips for a Successful Application
- Review eligibility requirements carefully before starting your application to ensure you meet all criteria at the time of submission.
- Start your application early to allow sufficient time to gather documentation and request three letters of recommendation.
- Ensure your letters of recommendation are submitted on time and come from appropriate faculty members who can speak to your academic preparation and professional goals. Choose recommenders strategically—faculty who know your work well and can address your readiness for graduate-level behavioral health nursing are strongest.
- Follow all application instructions exactly, including formatting and submission guidelines.
- Submit all required materials by the deadline. Late or incomplete applications are not reviewed.
- Provide clear, complete responses to all application questions, including personal statements and narrative sections.
- Demonstrate a clear career trajectory in psychiatric mental health and/or substance misuse treatment and prevention, including how the Fellowship will support your long-term goals.
- Be specific about your academic and clinical focus. Reviewers value concrete examples over general statements of interest.
- Confirm your enrollment status in an accredited, full-time academic program focused on psychiatric mental health and/or substance misuse.
- Highlight experience serving populations with limited access to care (e.g., veterans, individuals living in rural or geographically isolated areas, youth in high-need settings, uninsured/underinsured individuals, etc.)
- Proofread carefully for clarity, consistency, and tone; polished applications signal professionalism and preparedness.
- Keep copies of all submitted materials for your records and future reference.
- Monitor your email regularly after submission for updates or requests from the ANA MFP team.
