40% of AAPI LGBTQ youths have considered suicide in last year, report says (opens new window)
The survey from the Trevor Project found that 40 percent of LGBTQ youths who are Asian American or Pacific Islander, or AAPI, have seriously considered suicide in the past year. Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian youths experienced the highest rate, at 49 percent, followed by Korean American youths, at 47 percent, and Filipino American youths, at 41 percent. The Center for Men’s Health Equity was established in the Summer of 2021 in the Racial Justice Institute at Georgetown University. The Center team conducts research at the nexus of men’s health and health equity in an effort to achieve optimal well-being and social justice for men. New Treatment May Curb Low Blood Sugar in Kids With Insulin Disorder (opens new window)
A new therapy corrects low blood sugar in children with a genetic disorder that causes the pancreas to produce too much insulin, researchers say. The NIH Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Health Scientific Interest Group (NIH AANHPI-HSIG) will host the Inaugural "Annual NIH AA and NHPI Health Research Conference" on May 4-5, 2022, to celebrate AANHPI heritage month, highlight AANHPI research achievements, and assess research needs. The main theme of 2022 conference is "Mechanism and Translational Research to Improve Health and Therapeutic Outcome for AA and NHPI Population".
