Octavia Myers, RN, LPC is a first year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Valdosta State University School of Nursing. Prior to her enrollment at Valdosta, she worked at Emory University, Grady Healthcare, and Piedmont Hospital, providing clinical care to a diverse range of people. She also owns Renewing of the Mind Counseling Center in the Atlanta area, where she has been providing mental health counseling as a Licensed Professional Counselor for 10 years on a part-time basis. Ms. Myers graduated from Benedict College with a degree in Social Work and then furthered her education at Webster University, receiving her Master of Counseling. Later, she completed her Nursing degree at Augusta State University.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and going to church. Ms. Myers hopes to become a respected leader in the psychiatric mental-health community, so that she can use her platform to advocate for under-represented populations around the world. In addition to her professional pursuits, Ms. Myers is also a dedicated humanitarian who has volunteered in area shelters during her career. She has seen first-hand the effects of poverty and social injustice and has been inspired to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Ms. Myers believes that with the right resources, everyone has the potential to reach their goals and live their best life.
