Ashley King, MSN, RN, PHN, graduated from MFP-Youth in 2016 and is among the inaugural cohort. During her Fellowship she was a second year PMHNP graduate student at the University of California, San Francisco. Her interests include prevention, screening, and improved management of mental health. She is pursuing a career in healthcare to integrate her interests of health, education, and serving the underserved.
Ms. King has worked as a middle school science teacher for 5 years in the underserved communities of East Oakland, where she taught sexual education and STI/HIV prevention. Ms. King began her nursing career working on a geriatric dementia unit. In the past year, she led a smoking education group at a residential program for people with chronic mental illness, worked in psychiatric emergency services, and worked at a residential treatment facility for people with mental illness.
Ms. King was chosen as a 2015 National Medical Fellow and was part of their primary care leadership program. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honors society, and UCSF chapter.
