Researchers use artificial intelligence to diagnose depression (opens new window)
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses. As many as 280 million people worldwide are affected by this disease, which is why researchers have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model that helps to identify depression based on both speech and brain neural activity. This multimodal approach, combining two different data sources, allows a more accurate and objective analysis of a person's emotional state, opening the door to a new phase of depression diagnosis. Nurse Burnout Linked to Reduced Patient Safety (opens new window)
Nurse burnout was consistently tied to reduced patient safety and satisfaction, and lower quality of care, a meta-analysis involving decades of data indicated. The findings persisted regardless of nurses' age, sex, work experience, and geography, according to Tait Shanafelt, MD, of Stanford University School of Medicine in California, and colleagues. The APPROACHES to Community Mental Health Collab is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate to start in 2025.
The position is available for a 1–2-year appointment which will be housed in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Washington State University. As part of on-going research studies, funded by the NIMH, SAMHSA, and Washington State Health Care Authority, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will have the opportunity to work on studies focused on addressing inequities and disparities across the continuum of care for early psychosis.
The candidate will also:
- participate in intensive research mentorship
- prepare scientific manuscripts for publication
- contribute to research grant application submissions
- disseminate research findings through scientific presentations
- support implementation strategies (e.g., training, facilitation, technical assistance) to improve measurement-based care in coordinated specialty care
