Sylvia Nnamdi-Enwerem

Sylvia Nnamdi-Enwerem, PMHNP-BC, APRN, is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student at the University of North Dakota, where she is pursuing advanced clinical and leadership training in psychiatric mental health nursing.

Nnamdi-Enwerem is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner currently practicing at Alluma Mental Health Clinic in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. In her current role, she provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and therapeutic support for individuals experiencing complex mental health and substance misuse disorders. Her clinical focus is centered on promoting recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care for populations with unmet needs across rural communities.

Nnamdi-Enwerem's DNP scholarly project, titled ‘Evaluating Clinicians Knowledge of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) in Outpatient Mental Health Settings,’ aims to assess clinicians knowledge, confidence, and perceived barriers in prescribing evidence-based pharmacologic treatments for opioid use disorder. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior, her project integrates a brief educational intervention to enhance clinicians' understanding of MOUD, reduce stigma, and promote evidence-based treatment in outpatient psychiatric settings. The findings will inform the development of a practical decision-support tool for clinicians, ultimately improving access to life-saving treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder.

Dedicated to advancing health inclusivity, Nnamdi-Enwerem’s professional and scholarly work seeks to reduce health disparities among populations with unmet needs affected by co-occurring mental health and substance misuse disorders. Her long-term goal is to bridge gaps in behavioral health care through education, research, and policy advocacy. She is an active member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), North Dakota Nurses Association, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
