RN , Masters (Current)
Liza Kamau, RN is a second year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Chamberlain University School of Nursing, previously graduated from Felician University with a Bachelor of Science in nursing and Middlesex Community College with an associate degree in nursing. Currently, she works in an acute Inpatient Psychiatric Clinic for adolescents through adulthood and works part time in the Rehabilitation Centre and in a Dual diagnoses’ unit taking care of both detoxing and mentally ill patients.
Prior to joining the Psychiatric Mental Health clinic, Ms. Kamau worked in a step down acute and subacute facility as a staff RN and as a weekend supervisor. At the same time, she assisted in a long-term care facility taking care of the elderly who are both medically and mentally compromised.
Previously, she worked as a Direct Care Support specialist before becoming a registered nurse (RN). She took care of the Group home and assisted living clients making sure the Group home ran smoothly. Her passion is putting a smile on individuals who cannot adequately manage their own care and provide support and therapy to individuals who are behavioral and mentally challenged due to developmental or mental disorders.
During free time, she likes to travel, adventure in novel places and most importantly visit and volunteer in the community, for example, in the church and in shelters. Her ambition is to become a well-known leader in the psychiatric mental-health community who is passionate about her work in reaching out, advocating, and assisting many that are suffering from stigmatization from mental health, trauma, financial restrains, and substance abuse.
