Justus Maina

BSN , Masters (Current)

Justus Maina, BSN is a first-year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Walden University and a U.S. Army Reserve nurse with a strong background in psychiatric and behavioral health care. With hands-on experience across intensive inpatient, residential, and community settings, Maina is committed to advancing inclusive mental health services especially for veterans, men, and populations with unmet needs.

Before beginning graduate studies, Maina worked as a Psychiatric Nurse at Telecare Behavioral Health and Supreme Living, where he delivered direct care to individuals with chronic mental illness and co-occurring disorders, facilitated behavioral therapy programs, and led crisis interventions. He further sharpened his psychiatric care skills at South Sound Behavioral Hospital, providing therapeutic support, conducting assessments, and promoting stability for patients with complex psychiatric needs.

Maina’s experience as an Army Reserve Nurse has uniquely positioned him to understand the mental health challenges faced by service members and their families. He supports military mission readiness by supporting the health and well-being of service members and their families. This is through direct patient care or by providing leadership and guidance to enlisted service members working with him.

Maina enjoys swimming, traveling, and spending time with family. He is also a huge sports fan, supporting the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Seawolves (rugby). He is dedicated to advancing education and cultural understanding as a member of Rotary International’s Youth Exchange and Scholarship Committee, supporting programs that empower young leaders through global learning experiences.
