Jose Gonzalez Soto, MSN, MS, APRN, PMHNP-BC, LMHC is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at The University of Alabama, Capstone College of Nursing, in Tuscaloosa, AL. He is interested in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, gender-affirming care, trauma-informed care, psychoeducation, addiction recovery, and culturally competent mental health care. He is driven to provide awareness, psychoeducation, support, and address barriers to those who are underserved and underrepresented.
Mr. Gonzalez Soto is currently serving as a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, providing mental health and substance use treatment in Tampa Bay, Florida. Prior, he served as a Registered Nurse in multiple settings including inpatient psychiatry, addiction recovery, neuroscience, and neuro stepdown. He also worked as a Mental Health counselor, where he provided individual psychotherapy to a diverse caseload of LGBTQ+ adult clients in a community setting. As a Mental Health Counseling Intern, he was the recipient of a HRSA grant that supported integrated primary and mental health care to uninsured, underserved, vulnerable, and disadvantaged populations in a community center in Rochester, NY. In addition, Mr. Gonzalez Soto spent months volunteering abroad in Southeast Asia and Latin America assisting in community development, nursing and medical care, teaching, and environmental programs in underserved neighborhoods.
Mr. Gonzalez Soto was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from The University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, AL, a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling at St. John Fisher University at Rochester, NY, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagez Campus at Mayagez, PR.
He is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners, Golden Key International Honor Society, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
