Felicia Kaye Maher, BSN, RN, is a second year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Walden University. She anticipates her graduation to be November 2020.
As a registered nurse Ms. Maher has twenty-two years of experience. She began her experience as a psychiatric technician. After earning her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1997 she spent the first 8 years of her career in critical care beginning in telemetry, progressing to ICU/CCU, and then moving to PICC team, and finally the Emergency Department, demonstrating a progressive career advancement. Her past 14 years have been focused on behavioral health and substance abuse. For the last four she has worked as a traveling nurse with a specialty in psychiatric mental health.
Ms. Maher obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX. Her career goal is to open a clinic that integrates alternative health modalities as a strategy to decease the stigma associated with mental health care. Additionally, she plans to champion the utilization and on-going development of tele-psychiatric technology by becoming involved in the legislative process and including these modalities into her practice. Ms. Maher believes these methods will enable her to better reach underserved populations in rural areas.
Ms. Maher is a published author. She has served as Vice President of Woman to Woman Family Network Ministries, a Volunteer Mentor/Teacher for The Boys & Girls Club, WFISD reading program, and Child Evangelism Fellowship. Ms. Maher is a member of Black Nurses Rock- Texas Chapter, National Academy of Best-Selling Authors, World's Leading Experts, and The National Association of Professional Women.
