Ella M. Scott, Co-chair of the Canton, Ohio Town Hall Committee on Race Relations, is a certified clinical nurse specialist in community health and is Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Community Wellness Center of Stark County, OH. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Malone College and a Master's Degree in Community Health Administration and Wellness Promotion from California College for Health Sciences. Currently she is a doctoral candidate at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.
Ms. Scott has participated in numerous presentations and televised speaking engagements on topics such as Infants/Toddlers & Brain Development, Diabetes, Race Relations & Health, Healthy Living, and Cultural Competency and Effective Services. Her funded research includes HIV/AIDS Awareness & Prevention; Stress & Violence among Males; Meeting the Early Intervention Needs of Traditionally Underserved Populations, and Barriers to the Provision and Utilization of Prenatal Health Care Delivery Services for African American Women.
She has received the 2003 Outstanding Nursing Alumni Award, Aultman Hospital School of Nursing, Leadership Award from Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, and served as Legislative Liaison to Ohio Senator Scott Oelslager. Moreover, she has been invited to serve as United States Nurse Delegate to foreign countries in People to People Ambassador Program, Washington, DC.
Ms. Scott is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, the American Nurses Association, the Ohio Nurses Association, Midwest Nursing Research Society, American Public Health Association, Ohio State HIV/AIDS Prevention Coalition, Stark County Tobacco Use Prevention & Control Coalition, Transcultural Nursing Society, and the National Black Nurses Association.
Dr. Ella Scott graduated June 2007 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. Her dissertation research focuses on “The Mental Health Experiences of Adolescents of Color in Foster Care.”
She has presented her research at numerous local, national, and international meetings including the 6th World Congress on Stress in Vienna, Austria, the 19th World Congress of the World Association for Social Psychiatry in Prague, Czech Republic. Most recently, she presented at the 2008 Sigma Theta Tau International Conference in Singapore. Dr. Scott is Associate Professor at Kent State University in Ohio.
