Dr. David Agor, DNP, PMHNP-BC, HIVPCP, is dually certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and an HIV primary care provider. Currently a second-year PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Dr. Agor is developing a program of research on mental health outcomes among sexual diverse (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and other non-heterosexual) survival migrants (AKA forced migrants). His clinical work advances culturally congruent applications of functional and nutritional psychiatry.
Dr. Agor earned his first doctorate from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), where he specialized in the clinical assessment of multiple minority stress for Sexual and Gender Diverse (SGD) individuals with intersecting minoritized identities (Race and Ethnic Minority or REM). He graduated as an Interprofessional Distinguished Scholar. With publications in his field, Dr. Agor regularly presents at international, national, and regional conferences on topics ranging from SGD and REM mental health to novel evidence-based psychiatric treatments, including functional and nutritional psychiatry.
He has been awarded numerous national and institutional fellowships and is currently co-chairing the Southeastern region of the International Society of Psychiatric Nursing. As a policy advisor to the Milken Institute, Dr. Agor brings valuable experience in shaping health policy to his academic and clinical work. His personal background as an openly gay Nigerian man and a political scientist, Dr. Agor brings a unique global perspective to his work that examines multilevel factors affecting mental health inequalities for SGD survival migrants. His background allows him to integrate insights from political science, nursing, and personal experience into his research and practice.
